Kay Kosar

Hi everyone, my name is Kay Kosar and I live in Tairua. My husband and I retired here in December 2022 after being holiday makers for over 40 years! We love this place! Prior to retiring, I was a Teacher Aide in a primary school in Rotorua for 8 years working with beautiful autistic children. Since retiring we have been busy landscaping around our new home, trying to get fitter and fishing of course!

One of the hardest things when you retire and move permanently to another place is making new friends. Line Dancing is the perfect way to do this and so back in August last year when Donna asked a group of us if we would be interested in learning to Line Dance if she took a class, I jumped at the chance. I have never done any dance classes in my life but I have always loved music and although I wondered if I had the co-ordination to do line dancing I have found that it doesn’t matter if you do or don’t, It just matters that you show up and give it a go. You get better the more you do it, but the rewards are bigger than that. It’s the connection and friendships that you build along the way. It also helps greatly to have a wonderful, enthusiastic, funny instructor who is so very generous with her time and has very quickly turned our club into something to be proud of, thanks Donna!

Something people might not know about me is that I am a keen woodturner. I like to make all sorts of things. So when I’m not line dancing I am probably in my shed spinning bits of wood on my lathe.

My favourite line dances at the moment are Mr Showman, Opalite, Choosing Texas and Stomp 2,3,4 although that could all change next week as there are so many great dances to learn!
