Barb Paulsen
I am Barb Paulsen. I have always loved dancing.
" Back in the day", the country dances in the local halls were always popular events. Often whole families would go, the young children would watch their parents dance, and later learn to dance too. And of course, it was where teenage boy met teenage girl. And Yes, that was where I met Peter, the love of my life.
Years later, when Peter decided that he didn't want to go dancing any more, I found line dancing in Waipukurau, in the Hawkes Bay where we were farming.
Living in Pauanui is like home away from home, because we have been holidaying here since 1970.
Reminiscing, I loved the old dances, especially the waltz, the maxina and the three step, and was so proud when I danced with my Dad who was a beautiful dancer.
My favourite line dance would probably be Fly Like a Bird, and more recently, Gypsy Queen and Spinning Wheel. Not forgetting Come Dance With Me, which was the theme for my 80th birthday, and the Tairua girls danced that one along with Rock Around The Clock, at the party, and then invited the party goers to join in.
My family are very special to me; five children, eighteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and they love that I am still enjoying dancing. Okay! I am not as spry as I used to be, but while my feet keep the beat, I want to keep dancing while I can.
Music is good for the soul. So. Come on. Let's Dance.
